If you’re going through (or thinking about) a software purchase for your business, the preparation and due diligence you expend now can have a major impact on the Return on Investment you receive. Different companies use different terms to describe a Business Requirements Document (BRD) and various other documents - don’t get hung up on the name or acronym; it’s the content of the document that is important to understand. At Sentrien, we use terms that align with the NetSuite and Microsoft methodologies, so I am going to use those terms.  What is important, vitally so in my opinion, is to start your software search with a basic set of requirements before you start looking at software demonstrations.

The answer is a complex one, but the quick answer is yes. There are certainly many choices out there, some are even written within industry leading technologies - Microsoft, for one. Many of the field service software applications are narrow in focus (e.g. HVAC specifically or only scheduling and dispatch), are written outside of an industry standard platform and/or can have a low cost of entry but a high cost of ownership.
